Religion 1 is a painting about good and evil or...Heaven and Hell. I grew up in a family where we went to church every Sunday and we talked about Jesus and what he did often. In this painting, even though my body is being used as a weapon to Satan, the dove is actually trying to catch and save me from harm. This symbolizes how I tried to have a relationship with God but often made bad decisions that took me further away. It is also showing that even if I make mistakes or bad choices, he is still wanting me to be close to him while Satan just wants to use me for evil.
I've always liked how bold this painting is in color. It was one of the first paintings that I did in this cartoonish style and I love telling people the description. One of the main elements that I like about it is that the dove doesn't look like a push over and he stands up to evil. I have some friends that work in the church who are great Christians and they are TOUGH. When I painted this picture, I was thinking about them when I did the dove and I like the idea that Jesus was tough also and didn't get run over. He stood his ground and spread his message no matter what the obsticles were. I've always liked that thought and this image portraying it.
