About Tim Newton

I come from a very artistic family. When my brother, three sisters and I grew up, our parents and grandparents always had music playing and drawing supplies readliy available. We were all playing instruments at a very young age. In fact, while most parents have to fight to get their children to practice, I remember that our parents had to set a rule in the house that we had to stop practicing at 9:00 pm. If the rule wasn't set, we would play all night simply because we loved playing.

My love of music easily tranferred over into a love for painting and drawing since the same rules apply. For instance, repitition of patterns, movement and flow, and symbolism are all important elements of music and painting among other characteristics. In my case, I am a drummer so the high energy and smooth grooves compliment my exaggerated motion and bright colors in my paintings.

It has always been a battle for me to choose between art and music...that's why you'll find so many paintings about music. By 18 years old, I was teaching high school drum lines in Houston and at 20, I was touring the country in a band with my oldest sister (the best string player ever). At the same time, I was showing artwork in small venues and continuing to develop my style. After touring, I realized that I needed to make money a little more consistently so I learned about design and transferred my knowledge of music, art, and illustration to design. Now, I still play drums but focus the majority of my time on painting. The rest of my time is spent designing t-shirts and branding elements for companies, and spending time with my beautiful wife and newborn son.
